Mixing it up with the CM-J50

(L-R): Cadac Console’s technical director Peter Hearl, head of R&D Emily Watson and director of marketing and bus operations James Godbehear with the CM-J50 mixer

Returning to ISE after a four-year hiatus, Cadac has realigned its product offering with the new CM system, centred around the CM-J50 mixer.

Totally re-engineered with a brand new GUI, new internals and new racks, the CM-J50 is smaller and lighter than its forebears. The CM-J50 mixer boasts a higher I/O density with 96 inputs and 56 outputs, of which 48 are user assignable. Brighter 23.5in and 6.5in touchscreens are at the heart of the user interface, and while its form factor is familiar (including Cadac’s iconic wooden trims) the CM-J50 has been internally re-engineered both mechanically and electronically. Local I/O has expanded to include 16 analogue mic inputs, eight analogue outputs and eight AES3 ports.

Maintaining a 0.4ms through-system latency, the console also boasts two MegaCOMMS ports, mirrored on optical LC ports as well as BNCs, which provide system extension through a new series of ‘intelligent’ CM-SR remote stage racks.

Emily Watson, head of R&D at Cadac Consoles, said: “This console is a tale of two halves; it is a totally re-engineered console, but the rack is brand new and designed from scratch. The racks have a huge amount of flexibility with optical or coaxial connectivity, and include on-board monitoring, so you can set up things like gain direct from the rack.”
