NEXO’s Alpha+ hybrid source system has been installed at Crobar, one of Buenos Aires’ leading electronic music clubs, replacing a line array to upgrade sound at the 2,300-capacity venue.
The full Alpha+ installation comprises two flown pairs of M210 Main boxes with four B218 Bass modules and eight L20 subs across the front.
NEXO says the Alpha+ is a three-box front-of-house system designed to combine the benefits of line source coupling with the deployment flexibility of point source speakers, making it suited to venues where a line array cannot be flown. They say the original NEXO Alpha system has been in use in live music and club environments since the 1990s.
Located in the city’s Palermo barrio, Crobar has built a reputation as the home of techno and dance music in the Argentinian capital, hosting artists including Tale of Us, Adriatique, Stephan Bodzin, and Charlotte de Witte. The system was supplied by Argentinian distributor ONLOP S.A.
The club’s owners said the system is designed to deliver what they describe as a physical rather than purely sonic experience. “It’s an audio architecture designed for the physical demands of cutting-edge electronic music,” they said. “The bass isn’t a muddled ball of sound rumbling off the ceiling; it’s a sharp, defined, and powerful punch that you feel directly in your chest.”
