New dimension for thespians: theatre installs digital signage

As part of a _9million refurbishment of the popular theatre, developers required a high specification screen network to enliven the theatre’s lobby, bars and restaurant, and also to complement the new glass front which runs the full length of the building. Northern Stage needed the network to offer a platform for information on upcoming performances, ticket prices and other Northern Stage activities, as well as broadcasting live feeds of the three stages, on the screens.

Northern Stage approached ProAudio Systems, which recommended Dynamax Technologies’ flagship PointofView NG content management system as a screen solution that would fulfil the theatre’s demanding brief. PointofView NG provides the basis of an easy to manage multi screen network where content is centrally controlled. Importantly, PointofView NG has the power to support live broadcasts and other moving images on each screen.

Northern Stage was specifically looking for a system that would automatically show a message to theatre-goers instructing them to return to their seats. PointOfView NG was able to fulfil this requirement due to its ‘triggers’ application – the theatre technician presses a button and a message is automatically displayed on the screens.

Four 40-inch LCD screens were installed in the network, and are in daily operation as the theatre grows as a focal point of local theatre arts in Newcastle. Furthermore, as PointofView NG is infinitely expandable, the theatre has the option of installing additional screens in the future.

Brian Lumb, managing director at ProAudio Systems comments: “When Northern Stage asked us to provide a digital signage system that would match a high design specification,we turned to Dynamax. The PointofView NG system has a stylish, easy to manage interface, suitable for this installation. In addition, the system is powerful and reliable, offering a low maintenance network that can provide live feed images to viewers.”

Ian McKenzie, CEO at Dynamax, adds: “Here at Dynamax, we are pleased that yet another prominent screen network is successfully being powered by PointofView NG. From large nationwide networks, to smaller installations with a focus on style and quality, PointofView NG is demonstrating its excellent reliability and flexibility as a ‘grown up’ screen network solution in any environment.”
