Monitor Audio powers world’s first Youth Culture Museum

UK manufacturer’s Cinergy and Climate Series speakers are used across new London venue, including a custom-built rig developed with audiovisual artist Linett Kamala

Monitor Audio Group speakers feature throughout the Museum of Youth Culture, which opened to the public on June 20 in Camden, London, as the world’s first permanent institution dedicated to youth culture.

The 6,500sqft site spans four spaces, with speakers selected from Monitor Audio’s Architectural Series to suit the museum’s urban, industrial aesthetic. Climate Series 3G CL2 M speakers are used throughout the space, while the THX Ultra-certified Cinergy Series delivers audio in areas where visuals and sound combine to tell the story of youth culture.

Across the museum, Installation Amplifiers 2G and streaming amplifiers are used to zone audio for different exhibitions, allowing each space to have its own atmosphere.

For the main gallery, audiovisual artist and Notting Hill Carnival chairperson Linett Kamala designed a custom-built sound system installation featuring Monitor Audio’s Cinergy Series, drawing on the traditions of sound system culture and community gathering. Monitor Audio worked with Kamala on the development of the rig.

Michael Johnson, global marketing director at Monitor Audio Group, said: “We’re excited to partner with the Museum of Youth Culture to bring a new dimension of sound to their incredible collections. Our commitment to quality audio aligns perfectly with the museum’s mission to preserve and celebrate youth culture.”

Jon Swinstead, founder of the Museum of Youth Culture, added: “Monitor Audio has transformed how visitors can experience our exhibitions. Now they don’t just see youth culture, they can hear and feel it.”
