Modulo Pi’s Modulo Player media server is driving a semi-transparent LED installation of over 100sqm at the Théâtre du Lido in Paris, at the heart of the video system for the venue’s staging of Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (The Young Girls of Rochefort). The LED system was built in-house by AV provider Alabama Média using unbranded panels sourced directly from suppliers — referred to internally as the LST 3.9 – at a 3.9mm pixel pitch.
The configuration comprises two 7m curved side screens and a 10m central opening screen, forming a panoramic surface 24m wide by 4.5m high. The transparency of the panels at this pitch allows the live orchestra, positioned upstage behind the screens, to be revealed when lit.
Throughout the 2.5-hour production, an ETC Lighting Eos console controls the Modulo Player via Art-Net, with video and lighting cues linked so that a single trigger fires both simultaneously.
A single WQUXGA output from the Modulo Player drives the full screen surface, with the server’s X-Map feature managing all three sections from that output. A secondary Modulo Player unit provides backup. The screens are mounted on tracks and can be opened or closed manually to complement physical set pieces, which include a revolving stage, a café that rises from below the stage, and an art gallery.
The Modulo Player servers are installed in a dedicated technical room, with a remote workstation at the front-of-house control booth connected via single-mode fibre. An Elgato Stream Deck Studio allows technicians to monitor server status and run pre-show checks in real time. The system is also used for other events at the venue, with each server’s four 3G-SDI inputs enabling integration of external sources.
Antoine Dorize, the show’s video designer, said: “We selected LED panels with a 3.9mm pixel pitch that are transparent enough to reveal the musicians when lit. This setup allows us to blend lighting and video effects.”
He added: “We’ve had no issues since the beginning, across more than 150 performances.”
