KV2 Audio’s VHD and ESD Series loudspeakers have been installed at Leangen Arena, a 3,000-capacity ice hockey venue in Trondheim, Norway, as part of a wider renovation of the facility.
The final system comprises an eight-piece subwoofer array from KV2’s VHD Series, suspended in an oval geometry around a central media cube using a new steel support structure, alongside 26 ESD12 two-way passive loudspeakers flown around the perimeter of the ice rink. The venue’s relatively short throw distances allowed the design to keep audiences within the direct field of each loudspeaker, using KV2’s controlled directivity to achieve intelligibility without requiring excessive sound pressure.
AV integration specialist Avonlyd AS was tasked with delivering a system capable of high speech intelligibility and consistent coverage across the venue’s seating areas, despite its reverberant concrete, steelwork, glass and ice surfaces. Performance targets, including sound pressure level and Speech Transmission Index, were set by consulting engineers COWI.
Working closely with KV2’s technical support director and product specialist for APAC, Leo Tanzil, Avonlyd used EASE acoustic modelling and KV2’s SketchUp loudspeaker library to digitally model coverage, delay values and predicted intelligibility ahead of installation. Consultants from COWI reviewed the design data and methodology with Avonlyd and KV2 at ISE in Barcelona before the project proceeded.
