The system deployed by Amex Audio included 28 VT4889 full-size line array elements (set up as three separate arrays) for the main clusters, supplemented by four VT4887 compact line array elements for in-full coverage. Supporting subwoofer arrays were powered by Crown MA-5002VZ power amplifiers, while system signal processing was handled with three BSS Omnidrive Loudspeaker Management systems.
David Scheirman, vice-president, Tour Sound for JBL Professional, told II: “With its specific intentional design elements of precision coverage, reduced weight and robust output power capabilities, the VT4889 line-array element is highly suitable for this type of application. In televised performance situations where concert-quality music reproduction must complement broadcast sensibilities as regards sound levels and spectral balance in the audience area, VerTec arrays really come into their own.
“In addition to various European events like Superstar III in Slovakia, VT4889 arrays have recently been put to similar uses by JBL customers for sound reinforcement at numerous prestigious, globally-televised events like the 50th Grammy Awards, the Academy Awards and the MTV Music Awards. Leading audio professionals who design and install system deployments for this industry segment have confirmed that the original design goals of the VT4889 system are proving to be highly useful for their projects.”
