For this year’s InstallAwards, the category of public display/retail has been redefined and expanded slightly to include transport. Projects entered for 2015 are defined as installations where the aim is to inform, influence or entertain people as they shop, travel or undertake other aspects of their daily lives. Unlike the audience venues category, the installation is an adjunct to people’s activity, not at the heart of it.
The winner of last year’s Best Project Award in the public display/retail category was AVStumpfl. The project at the Stiegl Brauwelt Brew Cinema incorporated a floor projection on a surface of 200sqm and a main theme projected onto a semi-circular 24x4m wall as well as other features, all centrally controlled using AV Stumpfl Wings Touch and Avio show controller. The award was collected by Dr Andreas Scheucher and company founder Reinhold Stumpfl.
The David Bowie Is exhibition at the V&A in London, was a success and so too was the work that went into making it a smash hit, hence why Sennheiser picked up the Teamwork award for the project at the InstallAwards. The company worked in conjunction with colleagues from Sennheiser Canada and Sennheiser KG (German HQ) to ensure the installation was completed on time and met with the technical challenges that were integral to the exhibition.
Engage Production took home the Star Product Award in the Public Display and Retail category. Its Space3D Fashion 3D Software ensures that anyone who enters its Virtual Style Pod in the Abu Dhabi retail store can dress himself or herself virtually, without having to move a muscle.
For the 2015 InstallAwards, projects from all six categories will compete for a single Team of the Year Award.
There is no fee to enter a project for the InstallAwards, and any company or individual can submit up to three entries – either in the same category or across multiple categories.
An entry form is available at: www.installawards.com/nominations
Nominations are open to any permanent or semi-permanent installation, anywhere in the world, handed over to the client between 1 March 2014 and 28 February 2015.
