The corporate/industrial category covers installations in boardrooms, atriums, control rooms, simulation/visualisation facilities etc – facilities that are used by people while they are working, rather than by the public.
Last year, Holovis had a double success, picking up the Star Product Award and Best Project Award for its project at the Zurich headquarters of Schindler. The company wanted an immersive virtual reality experience for its customers and visitors, to show its vision of the future of city design. Rather than devising a solution requiring headsets or glasses, Holovis designed a flying 11m geodesic dome with 360° projection, using six projectiondesign F35 models.
The key feature picked out by the judges was that the Crestron control system enables all aspects of the exhibit – including lighting and audio as well as programme content – to be run by a single non-technical person; and Schindler staff have been trained to use edge-blending technology so that perfect results can be achieved every show. Holovis’ In-Mo design software was judged to be integral to the success of this project, securing the Star Product Award.
The Teamwork Award went to consultancy Visual Acuity for the GSK Shopper Science Lab. Europe’s biggest and most comprehensive brand research facility is used both to improve the understanding of shopper behaviour and to influence retailers and brands in the selection, positioning and packaging of consumer healthcare products. Technologies include the world’s largest seamless touchscreen (5.32m x 2.55m), 3D visualisation and mobile eye tracking.
To ensure that the design process was fully integrated between functionality, technology and the themed look, Visual Acuity collaborated very closely with numerous teams across GSK, as well as the interior designer, integrator and other project partners. The final design reviews and meetings were held across two days and involved 30 people.
