AWE’s new ProntoEdit software for the Philips Pronto TSU9600 advanced remote control is said to provide custom installers with an integrated two-way home control solution in an affordable, easy-to-use touch-panel. The upgraded version also enables the TSU9600 to receive feedback from RS232- and IP-controlled devices in real-time, reports David Davies.
According to AWE, the ability to receive feedback from such devices in real time provides advanced two-way functionality beyond merely controlling home entertainment and automation systems. For example, it allows the user to check whether the lights are currently on in a given room, consult temperature levels of HVAC systems, browse entire music and video libraries, or quickly read volume levels for AV devices – all from the touch screen of the control panel.
ProntoEdit 1.1 software, says AWE, enables custom installers to easily integrate and configure system feedback and dynamic user interfaces on the Pronto control panel by selecting from a list of pre-configured modules. Two-way modules from ten partner companies – among them Kaleidescape, Lutron and Denon – are included, with more manufacturers set to deliver modules towards the end of 2007.
In addition, installers familiar with the JavaScript-based programming language can utilise the embedded ProntoScript Software Developers Kit (SDK) to write bespoke modules for any RS-232 or IP controllable product.
Mal Fisher, training manager at AWE, told II: “The ProntoScript software for Philips Pronto brings a level of customisation and programming to the controls market never before available at this mid-market price point. This enhances the already excellent Pronto offering making it attractive to all levels of installation, from a simple home cinema right up to the most advanced installs.”
The latest release of ProntoEdit incorporates the ProntoScript SDK and is available as a free download (second link below). Installers wishing to access the additional free, pre-configured two-way modules are required to register as professional users and pass a simple online Pronto foundation course giving the installer Level 1 certified status.
