At 11:30 on Tuesday 31 January in the Education Zone at ISE 2012, InfoComm International will present a one-hour session exploring the role of the IEEE 802.1 Audio/Video Bridging (AVB) standards in the professional AV industry. As well as explaining AVB and other related IEEE standards, the session will discuss the advantages of an open-source, non-proprietary networking technology. Led by Jerry Placken, Worldwide Sales Manager, Digital Products for Meyer Sound, the session will also explain the role of silicon-makers in the promotion of AVB and the impact this will have in ensuring that the AV networking solutions of today and tomorrow are cost-effective. And, in an era where ‘inter-operability’ has become a key consideration for many integrators, the session will also look at the role a rigorous compliance programme will play in ensuring that all AVB devices can work together. Placken, who holds a degree in Music Engineering and has worked in technical sales in the professional audio industry since 1987, will show how high-quality audio can be sent over standard Ethernet with extremely low latency, and how the development of AVB is starting to change the way AV systems are designed, installed and implemented.
