Brompton Technology has received the King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category for the Tessera SX40 LED processor.
The deputy lieutenant of Greater London, Randeep S. Lall, presented the award on behalf of His Majesty King Charles III at the company’s headquarters in West London on Wednesday October 1.
The SX40 was introduced in 2018 when Brompton was focusing on live events. Its design and development, led by chief technology officer Chris Deighton, was designed to address the challenges of 4K video.
A year after launch, the processor gained the capability to receive HDR video through Brompton’s Dynamic Calibration technology. When filmmakers began using LED screens on virtual production sets during the pandemic, Brompton says it introduced features designed to improve on-camera performance, streamline system workflows and elevate image quality. The SX40 was later recognised with a Lumiere Award and an Emmy Award.
Richard Mead, chief executive officer at Brompton, said: “We pride ourselves on our innovation and it is wonderful to have that recognised with such a prestigious award.”
Lall added: “What is so special about the King’s Award is that it is a distinction you have all worked for and achieved together as a team. And it is a distinction, I may say, because these awards are greatly sought after and sparingly given.”
The award comes as the company launches its next-generation processor, the Tessera SQ200. Mead described the occasion as “a great opportunity to remind ourselves of quite how special the SX40 has been”.
Mead concluded: “I want to thank everyone who has played a part in the SX40’s success story. Including the partners who have been willing to invest in the product, who have used it to deliver incredible projects, and who have challenged us to keep innovating.”
