The London Olympic Games opening ceremony will incorporate projected displays from Panasonic’s PT-DZ21K Series projectors.
The three-chip DLP devices from the official sponsor to the Games will project 20,000 lumens of brightness as part of the entertainment for the 80,000-strong crowd at the Olympic Park, as well as the billions of people watching globally.
The efficient devices – consuming approximately 2,300W of power – comprise features such as Panasonic’s Digital Clarity Processor 3, dynamic sharpness control and System Daylight View 2. These will enable the production of high-quality images that can be geometrically adjusted and shaped on board to fit screens and complex surfaces.
Reliability will certainly be an important factor with the devices at the ceremony. Panasonic’s quad-lamp system should ensure that the projector is operational if the lamp in use fails. The 2,000-hour lamp replacement cycle and newly developed optical engine and cooling system will also contribute to the projectors successful operation.
The London Olympic Games opening ceremony is entitled “Isles of Wonder”, which was inspired by William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. It will include parades from competing nations, the entrance of the of the Olympic Flame and the receiving of the Head of State Ceremony where her Majesty the Queen will be greeted by president of the International Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, Jacques Rogge.
