Optimising control

Effective real-time decision-making within the control room environment depends on optimised visualisation and efficient collaboration. Enabling both these elements of successful command and control, the combination of AV over IP and KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) technology helps organisations to enhance individual efficiency and team collaboration, which in turn boost overall responsiveness. While robust IP-based KVM systems provide operators with flexible, simultaneous access to remote systems, AVoIP technology facilitates the extension, distribution, and control of ultra-high-resolution video/audio over IP to any number of screens across a local area network (LAN). 

INDIVIDUAL EFFICIENCY
Because organisations today connect virtually every new system and source over IP, they can leverage IP-based KVM systems to extend remote access and monitoring capabilities within command and control. With switching managed in the background, individual operators can access and switch multiple systems seamlessly using a single keyboard, mouse, and monitor setup. They can focus on critical monitoring tasks without the time-consuming distraction of entering manual switching commands.

KVM-enabled control not only reduces desktop clutter, making for a more comfortable workspace, but also gives operators the freedom to arrange physical, virtual, and cloud-based systems as individual windows across multiple monitors according to preferences. In addition to reducing the physical strain of monitoring a large number of sources, this model improves operators‘ responsiveness, allowing them to assess information rapidly and take necessary action.

TEAM COLLABORATION
Collaboration among control room operators is essential in larger organisations, where it takes a team to monitor and manage the many systems and sources supporting operations. KVM technology makes it easy for individual operators to quickly share critical information they’re monitoring on their own displays on a common display or video wall for the larger group to see. With rapid visualisation of the source in question, the team can work together more effectively to identify and resolve any problems.

Delivering the appropriate signal directly to a video wall, without the need for additional encoders or decoders, the KVM system provides a valuable control room capability without driving up costs, adding complexity, or increasing the burden on administrators. 

While the two technologies traditionally have been separate systems, AVoIP and KVM over IP today can be implemented and managed through a single platform. AV-systems have evolved to include KVM control, and KVM-systems have incorporated AV processing and video wall control into their products. Both approaches effectively unite KVM and AV control, eliminating the need for administrators and operators to move from one system to the other in order to switch sources for the desktop monitor or for video wall content. Using one platform to manage AVoIP and KVM over IP, organisations not only reduce maintenance costs but also give operators the ability to access KVM sources and directly share AV content from the KVM console.

Organisations can deploy IP-based KVM technology on the same IT network that supports data, leveraging existing network infrastructure to increase control room connectivity, take advantage of the media formats (including 4K), and enhance visualisation with the latest display solutions. As their operations evolve and grow, organisations working with the latest IP-based KVM technology can easily scale up connectivity, add systems and AV sources, and extend the scope of monitoring and control to address changing requirements.
