L-Acoustics has provided the core technology for a comprehensive audio upgrade at Stadsschouwburg De Harmonie’s flagship auditorium, the 458-seat Rabozaal, in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. The newly installed L Series system is designed to improve sound quality and consistency for a broad range of performances, from theatre and cabaret to live music.
The installation includes left and right hangs of single L2D line array speakers, four KS21i subwoofers positioned alongside the main arrays, and centrally flown A10 speakers to ensure full stage and in-fill coverage. The system is tailored to adapt to the venue’s flexible seating, accommodating both seated and standing configurations.
L-Acoustics says the choice of the L Series was influenced by its compact size and lightweight construction, which minimises visual impact and preserves sightlines in the venue. Additionally, the directional control helps manage the auditorium’s reflective surfaces, reducing unwanted sound reflections and optimising clarity, the company says.
An early validation of the system came during the system’s first weekend of operation, when three distinctly different events put the new rig through its paces: an ’80s guitar music festival with a standing crowd, a seated cabaret performance, and an international soul act, L-Acoustics says.
René van der Linden, L-Acoustics certified provider at distributor Fairlight, said: “The resulting system delivers the audio experience that modern audiences expect, with the L Series providing both the power and precision needed for contemporary live sound applications. The installation enhances both speech intelligibility and musical performance, ensuring every seat in the house receives consistent, high-quality sound.”
Chris Mertens, system designer and integrator at Mertens AVR, added: “Visiting engineers from different events specifically praised the high-end audio system and even coverage, nothing they hadn’t experienced such consistent quality before. This feedback gives us great confidence for the rest of the season.”
The upgrade process also made use of L-Acoustics Soundvision software to digitally simulate speaker positioning and optimise sound pressure levels and coverage before installation began.
