Dongchun Gym, home to the Ulsan Mobis Phoebus professional basketball team, has updated its sound system with the new HFA series from NEXT-proaudio.
The 5,500 capacity Dongchun Gym opened in 2000 and is located in Ulsan City approximately 400km to the southeast of Seoul. Unlike other gyms, its roof is made of light fabric materials for natural lighting.
The new system had to meet certain criteria: “Top of the list was high-fidelity sound accepted by audiences and the team,” said Tom Jung, executive director of Avix Tech. “And, the sound system design had to improve much more than former sound systems which the team used in the past.”
There were a number of limitations on the design and installation of the system, which meant Avix Tech had to place 20 main speakers in front of the second floor rear wall. There was limited available space for the main speakers so Avix Tech configured 20 NEXT-proaudio HFA115 powered speakers on the 2nd floor. HFA series have a total output power of 1,650W RMS, and 127.5dB SPL. They have a good directivity and networkable DSP built-in. The second challenge was that the sound systems have to be removed after the season ends and then reinstalled before the start of the next season.
Avix Tech combined a HFA115 powered speaker and HFA118sHP subwoofer on the court as requested Mobis team. The manufacturer has also painted all the speakers to match the team’s colours.
“The painting went very well, and the colour coordinates with the team. Of course, the sound quality improved and is much, much better than the systems in the past. It couldn't be better in this space.” said Jerry Lee, general manager of Ulsan Mobis sports team.
