InstallAwards: Biamp AudioFLEX solves acoustic concerns

The kit was chosen for the National Renewal Energy Laboratory's Energy Systems Integration Facility.

Biamp has been shortlisted for two awards at the upcoming InstallAwards. As well as being up for Best Project in the Education sector for its Purdue University install, the manufacturer’s AudiaFLEX is also in the running for the Best Product in the Corporate/Industrial category.

The NREL opted for Biamp’s AudiaFLEX in its Energy Systems Integration Facility, which enables researchers to design, test, and analyse energy components and systems across global workgroups. This 182,500sqft facility houses 200 researchers/staff in eight different work spaces. Each space is uniquely designed and includes a 3D-collaboration lab, control room to monitor/control the facility processes, visualisation labs for experiments, and conference rooms of various sizes. Global partnerships meant ESIF needed to route quality audio, video, and other data into conference and control rooms. Each space required fully functional, standalone audio with localised control, yet remain connected over the facility’s network. Yet, individual systems were not unified.

Providing up to 24 channels of input/output, each Biamp Systems’ AudiaFLEX uses CobraNet to distribute multichannel audio among the mulitple units. The enclosed VoIP-2 cards enable VoIP conferencing directly from each AudiaFLEX, with two channels of VoIP supported per card, increasing the capability to meet the client’s needs. Additionally, each of the AEC-2HD cards provide two channels of acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) and background noise reduction. Specifically desgined using Biamp’s Sona Acoustic Echo Cancellation technology, the cards provide increased frequency response, improved audio quality and more natural sound during the transmission of speech, regardless of the number of participants involved in a conference call. Without the integration of this technology, managing the sound reverberation of human speech and pick up within the widely varying conference spaces would have been extremely difficult if not impossible on a reliable basis.

“Biamp was thrilled that the National Renewable Energy Lab’s new Energy System Integration Facility selected AudiaFLEX for their audio needs throughout such an important and diverse space. Efforts from organisations like the NREL are so critical to the future of energy resources, and their facility requires solutions that support development and innovation with the least amount of effort. Biamp being selected for high-use spaces like the 3D-collaboration and visualisation labs, as well as the numerous conference rooms, illustrates the power and flexibility built into every product, and our continued dedication to the industry,” said Graeme Harrison, executive vice president of marketing at Biamp Systems.
