Sony introduces 4K mini-LED monitor for medical environments

In brightly lit operating rooms, the LMD-32M1MD is designed to minimise screen reflection to provide surgeons with a clearer view

Sony has announced the launch of its latest 4K mini-LED monitor, the LMD-32M1MD, designed for medical environments. The LMD-32M1MD features Sony’s local dimming technology and backlight master drive.

This technology is designed to precisely control the panel backlight’s dense array of mini-LEDs. Sony says that, by independently controlling the LED backlighting sources in light and dark zones of the image, the LMD-32M1MD achieves significantly improved black reproduction and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. It boasts a peak brightness exceeding 1,850 cd/m².

In brightly lit operating rooms, the LMD-32M1MD is designed to minimise screen reflection to provide surgeons with a clearer view. Sony’s anti-reflection technology combines two reflection suppression technologies: Low reflection and anti-glare surface treatment. This combination reduces the amount of reflected light and diffuses incoming light, resulting in extremely high contrast images with lifelike colour reproduction.

Equipped with LCD and signal processing technology conforming to ITU-R recommendation BT.2020, the LMD-32M1MD boasts a wide colour gamut. This is designed to enable superior colour reproduction, resulting in more realistic visualisation of surgical images.

The integrated light sensor automatically adjusts brightness to match the ambient lighting conditions, which Sony says makes it well suited for procedures performed in low-light environments, such as ICG navigation surgery.

Leonard Yap, assistant general manager, medical imaging solutions, Sony Electronics (Singapore), said: “At Sony, we are proud to announce the LMD-32M1MD, a surgical display monitor that leverages decades of expertise in developing high-performance consumer televisions and market-leading professional monitors. Combining advanced technology with features specifically tailored to the unique demands of the healthcare environment, this new surgical display monitor delivers reliability, precision alongside versatility to master any imaging task in the operating room.

“We are encouraged by the enthusiastic response from our customers and partners at closed-door events held prior to the launch. This latest monitor not only meets the high-performance needs of the healthcare industry but also reflects our commitment to reducing environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable world.”
