Daktronics produces world’s largest HD video displays

The two new Daktronics displays at EverBank Field, the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars, feature 35.5 million LEDs and could fit a real-to-life size image of George Washington’s head from Mount Rushmore.

This Saturday, a total of 35.5million LEDs will light up EverBank Field, Jacksonville, Florida, home of US football team, the Jacksonville Jaguars – in what will be the grand unveiling of the world’s largest HD video displays. The screens, which have been manufactured and installed by South Dakota-based Daktronics, feature 21,700sqft of digital canvas with each measuring longer than a football field.

The info graphic (click to enlarge) shows just how big the screen is in comparison to (from left to right): human, car, semi-truck, one-story house, two-story house, goal posts and George Washington’s head from Mount Rushmore.

The two massive displays, which are located opposite one another at the end zones, will each measure 60ft high by 362ft wide and feature a 13HD pixel layout. The mega displays will be able to feature three full-size HD windows (60ft high by 106ft wide) for maximum versatility during any event, leaving an extra 44ft-wide buffer space for additional graphics, stats and other content.

The 13HD technology was selected for this installation for many reasons, chief among them being the high brightness that helps overcome the Florida sunlight – especially in direct sunlight received by the north end zone.

“The Jaguars have done a great job in preparing an exciting unveiling event for the world’s largest video displays,” commented Jay Parker, vice president of Live Events, Daktronics. To celebrate the unveiling EverBank Field will play host to a friendly football (soccer) match between English Premier League team, Fulham F.C. and US outfit, D.C. United, followed by a concert featuring country music star Carrie Underwood.

“These displays will set a precedent in professional venues in terms of the fans experience and what can be witnessed by going to the stadium. The team can show a never before seen combination of content with essentially three huge HD screens on one massive LED display. It’s going to be amazing when they fire them up to host their first home football game,” added Parker.
