Following a recent firmware update, Lightware, has announced that integrators can now boost performance and support for 5K ultrawide displays when using MX2 matrix switchers – which are now the company’s first product line to offer 5K switching.
“This update represents a practical response to the growing number of AV environments demanding 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratios,” said Lightware CEO, Gergely Vida. “Our MX2 switchers can now support significantly more screen real estate and sharper visuals without sacrificing system reliability.”
The MX2 series is part of the world’s largest matrix switcher portfolio from Lightware, offering ultra-low frame latency, uncompressed 4K60 4:4:4 switching, and reliable EDID handling.
The firmware update enables MX2 devices to handle 5120×2160 resolution via HDMI 2.0 (30Hz 4:4:4 or 60Hz 4:2:0) and DisplayPort 1.2 (30Hz 4:4:4). Most importantly for existing customers, MX2 units already in the field are instantly compatible, so there’s no need for any hardware or cabling upgrades. This firmware update also marks a milestone, with the MX2 series becoming Lightware’s first product line to offer 5K switching.
“5K and 21:9 displays have gone beyond industry buzzwords and are now a real functional upgrade for users across various markets,” continued Vida. “From control rooms to broadcast studios, users are pushing for more pixels to keep multiple data sources visible at once. This update gives them the technical edge.
“This latest update is a continuation of our platform-first mindset. We offer our clients consistent performance, long-term compatibility and updates that respond to the real needs of AV professionals and systems integrators.”
