AVIXA and CEDIA look ahead to summer events

With another successful Integrated Systems Europe completed, the show’s co-owners CEDIA and AVIXA are looking ahead to events that they are organising this summer. AVIXA is counting down to the InfoComm show, while CEDIA has launched its 2018 Awards programme.

AVIXA has announced that registration is now open for InfoComm 2018, which takes place 2-8 June in Las Vegas.

The show will kick off on Tuesday 5 June, with the opening reception at OMNIA Nightclub Las Vegas. But even before that, the show’s education programme begins Saturday 2 June, with more than 80 new sessions, trainings, and workshops.

The popular AV Tech Tours will cover new ground this year in Las Vegas, traveling to the Hakkasan Nightclub at MGM, JEWEL Nightclub in the Aria, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. These tours go behind the scenes of real AV experiences.

Also new, InfoComm 2018 will introduce its first Integrated Life program. Taking place on 5 June at the Westgate Las Vegas, Integrated Life Day is a one-day thought-leadership event focused on the crossover opportunities between the commercial and residential audiovisual markets. The day’s sessions will address trends, technologies, business models, and forecasts for the AV market through interactive panel discussions and presentations. They will cover an array of hot-button topics, including the impact of artificial intelligence on consumer and commercial markets, voice-first products and the user experience, converging markets, and more.

“As the AV industry’s professional association, it’s AVIXA’s job to deliver fresh and timely education at every event we host,” said Jason McGraw, CTS, CAE, senior vice president of expositions, AVIXA. “With the new Integrated Life program, we’re going beyond commercial technology to explore how it crosses over to residential technology and vice versa. People live seamless lives so we need to think about our technology that way.”

In addition, the InfoComm 2018 exhibit floor (6-8 June) will have an area devoted to Integrated Life solutions, showcasing smart lighting, sensor technology, building and home automation, voice control, integrated security, mobile AV, and much more.

CEDIA has announced that the 2018 CEDIA Awards programme is now open and accepting entries for both the home technology professional awards and the manufacturer awards.

“CEDIA’s Awards programme recognises technical excellence and product innovation, and celebrates the many ways technology enhances the home,” said Jenny Scott, CEDIA director of member engagement. “We are excited to be able to launch the programme earlier this year, providing members needed time to complete the entry process.”

Categories for the home technology professional awards are as follows: Integrated Home; Media Room; Home Cinema; Innovative Solution or System; Showroom; Auto, Marine, or Aircraft; and Multiple Dwelling Unit Design. Installations may be entered in multiple categories and are judged by industry technical experts. Entrants compete and are recognised within their region – Americas, EMEA, or Asia Pacific – based on their primary location.

Finalists, announced in July, will be considered for additional sub-category awards based on their region. A panel of technical judges will choose winners for Best Documentation, Best Dressed Rack, and Best Lighting System; a panel of design/build professionals will select a winner for the Life Lived Best at Home Award and the Technology Meets Design Award.

The home technology professional Global Award winners are selected from the overall winners in all regions. Deadline for entry is 2 April 2018. The CEDIA manufacturer awards include the following categories: Best New Software Product, Best New Hardware Product, and Product Hall of Fame. All entries are evaluated by industry professionals, and finalists will be selected in August. Deadline for entry is 14 May 2018.

Americas winners will be announced and recognised at the CEDIA Expo in San Diego, California. EMEA winners will be announced and recognised at the 2018 EMEA Awards event in London. Asia Pacific winners will be announced on 23 August 2018 at the CEDIA Awards event in conjunction with Integrate 2018. Members may begin their entry at www.cedia.net/awards.
