JBL VerTec for South Korean superclub

Designed by Jon Won Lee and installed by Sovico AV with design assistance from the firm’s acoustic research laboratory, Sovico R&D, the JBL system was devised to serve five specialised DJ teams, two house bands, three dance teams and two performance art teams. It comprises a total of 12 VerTec VT4889ADP powered full-size line array elements, configured in two arrays of six. These full-range arrays are supported by eight VT4880ADP powered full-size arrayable subwoofers with ultra-long excursion 2269H 18in transducers, configured in two arrays of four each and located in coves beneath the performance stage.

The entire main system features JBL DrivePack technology, which incorporates Crown Audio’s patented BCA (Balanced Current Amplification) and Class I circuitry. The Harman-focused set-up also includes four JBL PRX535 powered systems for localised fill, dbx 2231 dual 31-band graphic equalizers, dbx 1066 dual compressor limiter gates, a Lexicon MXP1 effects processor, a Soundcraft GB8 mixing console and seven AKG WMS4000 wireless microphone systems.

David Scheirman, vice president, tour sound for JBL Professional, commented: “The new powered full-size models in the VerTec family make an ideal system design approach for this type of application. The models selected for the Kwangju CD club offer high output power capabilities combined with complete system integration, including the onboard digital signal processing inherent to the JBL DrivePack technology platform.”

In another recent project, Sovico AV equipped Goyang Ice Arena with an extensive Harman specification including Crown Macro-Tech series amplifiers, JBL LSR6235P studio monitors, JBL AM Series loudspeakers, Soundcraft K3 and K1 consoles, AKG K271S headphones and dbx/BSS Audio processors, among numerous other items of equipment.

The audio system was fitted in advance of the 2008-2009 SBS ISU Senior and Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, which were held in December last year.

“The brilliant sound system was a big help in the success of the event,” remarked a civil official of Goyang City.
