INFiLED designs 96 transparent panels for 81sqm display at Circuit Paul Ricard

Huge transparent LED screen stretches 15m across entrance to Circuit Paul Ricard, home of Le Mans and Formula 1 in France, and will display live racing, interviews and sponsor messaging

INFiLED designed 96 transparent LED panels for the iconic Circuit Paul Ricard, the long-time home of Le Mans and Formula 1 racing in France. The complete screen measures 15m wide by 5.4m high, delivering a surface area of 81sqm, with three unique panels fitted precisely across the 32 glass canopy windows.

Guests arriving at the Circuit Paul Ricard, in Le Castellet, France, will now be greeted by the architectural centrepiece stretching 15m across the façade of the venue’s main entrance. The large display, one of the biggest transparent LED screens in Europe, will broadcast live race coverage, interviews and sponsor messaging.

The bespoke solution was designed and customised by INFiLED, then installed in close collaboration with French integrator ND Tech Med.

INFiLED says that, to maximise visibility and clarity for a moving crowd, the display employs a horizontal pixel pitch of 4mm and vertical pixel pitch of 8mm, optimised for legibility from various distances and angles without compromising the screen’s transparency.

One of the key design challenges, the company says, was finding the right balance between light transmission and screen intensity: too transparent and the image would be washed out; too opaque and the installation would lose its architectural impact.

INFiLED says there were complex structural challenges. Along with ND Tech Med, the company engineered a custom fixing system designed to ensure long-term stability while accommodating thermal expansion, preventing any risk of stress or damage to the glass canopy below.

The design and development process included a fact-finding visit to INFiLED’s Barcelona showroom, followed by three on-site demos at the Circuit Paul Ricard to test and refine the concept under real-world conditions.

Mathieu Arnould, country sales manager of France for INFiLED, said: “Circuit Paul Ricard’s new LED screen isn’t just a warm, bold, dynamic welcome – it’s an architectural statement. It’s also a vision that we were honoured to help bring to life.”
