HK Audio line arrays power Baltic arena’s ice production

Largest deployment of company's COSMO models to date brought 149 loudspeakers across ten hangs to 20,000-capacity 360° ice production at Žalgirio Arena in Kaunas, Lithuania

HK Audio’s COSMO line array system has been deployed at Žalgirio Arena in Kaunas, Lithuania, for Stichijos 2: Pasadoblis – a large-scale ice production combining figure skating, dance and cinematic audio across a 360° audience configuration. The project marks the largest COSMO deployment to date.

The 39,000sqm arena, which has a capacity exceeding 20,000, presented significant acoustic challenges, including a fully immersive seating configuration and large suspended scenic elements. The system comprised 110 mid/high units and approximately 149 loudspeakers in total, with COSMO C 10, C 8 and C 6 modules deployed across ten hangs to achieve consistent coverage from the ice surface to the highest seating tiers. Low-end support came from a combination of flown and ground-stacked subwoofers, with additional units beneath the bleachers, while CONTOUR CX 210 LT systems covered the arena floor and front seating areas.

Vicente Rios Silvestre, application support engineer at HK Audio, said: “We were working with a wide, fully immersive space, with audiences both close to the stage and high up in the arena – achieving consistent coverage across all of those areas was the key challenge.”

The deployment was carried out under considerable time pressure by Garsas LT, one of Lithuania’s largest rental and production companies.

Elanas Gascevičius, manager at Garsas LT, added: “We worked for two days without sleep to get everything ready. Once the ice is in place, there’s no going back – everything must be right the first time. With COSMO, it just works. You don’t need to bring it back down or make constant adjustments. In a project like this, that reliability is critical.”

The project also involved distributor Tamsta Profesionalas (UAB) and regional partner Rock Distribution. Žalgirio Arena is the first sports venue in the world to receive a BREEAM In-Use certification.
