Green Hippo’s Hippotizer media servers played a central role in a concert by Lithuanian hip-hop duo Lilas ir Innomine, delivering real-time IMAG effects at Vingis Park Amphitheatre in Vilnius, Lithuania. IMAG (image magnification) refers to visual enhancements applied to live video feeds of performers on stage, shown on large screens.
Visuals were created and programmed by design studio Marfa Lights, which used a combination of Hippotizer Boreal+ MK2 and Karst+ MK2 media servers to manage playback and effects across a huge 9,216 x 3,200-pixel main LED screen and six 832 x 1,560 IMAG screens. The system handled four SDI inputs and ran 32 layers across two mixes, combining pre-rendered content with real-time video feeds and internal effects.
Green Hippo says the show’s creative direction focused on atmospheric, gritty visuals that enhanced the lighting without overwhelming it. Hippotizer’s built-in effects and media generators were used to manipulate short video loops and integrate live footage with layered treatments, creating evolving visuals that transitioned seamlessly throughout the performance.
Pijus Norušis, lighting designer at Marfa Lights, said: “The Boreal+ MK2 proved rock-solid, even when running 32 layers across two mixes at those resolutions. Every part of the show – from the main screen visuals to the IMAGs – relied heavily on internal Hippotizer effects and Notch FX. The ability to manage everything on one platform with fast response times was invaluable.
“Short clips became complete visuals simply by mixing them with the IMAG outputs via Hippotizer. The show was built on constant transitions in and out of effects, but the Boreal+ MK2’s playback performance made it seamless.”
The Hippotizer systems were operated via a grandMA3 lighting console, with Norušis integrating video server programming into his existing lighting workflow. He explained: “Because my background is lighting, the transition was smooth. Hippotizer’s user interface and console personality are extremely intuitive. Every feature I needed was easily accessible, and I barely had to touch the server itself aside from loading video files.”
The Hippotizer hardware was supplied by Video Projektai, and the event also featured performances by Petunija, SHWR, Ade, and Micro One.
