Funktion-One loudspeaker systems were deployed across three stages at TMPRL, an electronic music festival held at Parque de los Gasómetros – a historic former gas works in the heart of Santiago, Chile. The event, organised by show producer Street Machine alongside underground collectives FOMO and DAME, marks the first time a Chilean festival has run Funktion-One systems simultaneously across three stages.
The Gasómetros site – a significant piece of Santiago’s industrial heritage – presented a distinct set of acoustic and production challenges. During preparations, Funktion-One’s Projection software was used by Púrpura Producciones, a Chilean rental and installation company, to map dispersion and coverage patterns before extensive on-site tuning. An extended soundcheck with DJ and producer Lil Louis provided further opportunity to refine the system from both a technical and artistic perspective, according to Funktion-One.
Joaquín Baeza, of Púrpura Producciones, said: “The priority was maintaining definition and musicality across the audience areas while avoiding listening fatigue during long sessions. The system needed to respond equally well to both high-energy moments and more minimal passages.”
Beto, of collective FOMO, added: “For approximately two hours, we carefully tuned both the DJ booth and the main dancefloor located inside the Gasómetros structure. It became an extremely valuable process because it allowed the system to be refined from both an artistic and technical perspective, helping define how the experience should truly feel within the space.”
Beto noted that clarity and intelligibility held up throughout the night across a wide range of sonic textures, adding that the low-end response was “deep, precise and physical, yet always controlled and musical – it never felt invasive or uncontrolled, even within an acoustically challenging environment.”
Future editions of TMPRL are in development, with plans to expand the concept to additional markets across Latin America.
