Library of Congress gains major AV upgrade

SoundTube IPD-TSB2.0 Dante-enabled soundbars and ten Digital Projection E-Vision 11000 4K projectors deployed in David M. Rubenstein Treasures Gallery in Washington, D.C.

SoundTube IPD-TSB2.0 Dante-enabled soundbars, ten Digital Projection E-Vision 11000 4K projectors, and a six-station interactive touchscreen table form the core of a new AV installation at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Integration firm Ford AV handled delivery of the project, which required fitting modern AV technology into a building dating from 1897 without compromising its architectural character.

The ten Digital Projection E-Vision 11000 4K projectors illuminate the building’s historic windows, with custom-curved screens engineered to match the exact dimensions and curvature of the original frames. The six-station interactive collections table features 21in Elo and MIMO UM-1080-HOF touchscreens alongside 10.1in digital labels, giving visitors access to archival content and video. Molitor VIA induction headsets, integrated into exhibit rails, provide ADA-compliant personal audio at key locations.

A spokesperson for SoundTube said: “The system needed to perform consistently throughout the day under steady visitor traffic, maintaining clarity without disrupting the quiet, contemplative atmosphere expected in a museum setting.”

The spokesperson added: “In these environments, intelligibility often matters more than volume, and controlled dispersion can reduce the need for additional acoustic treatment. Thoughtful placement and low-profile design frequently deliver better results than higher-output systems that risk overwhelming the space.”
