d&b audiotechnik’s new U-Series point-source loudspeakers have been installed at B 018 club in Beirut, marking the first deployment of the range in the Middle East.
The new sound system was designed around the venue’s physical constraints, including a relatively low ceiling and retractable steel roof, which ruled out central loudspeaker positions. The DJ booth can also operate at either end of the space, requiring additional flexibility through presets in R1. The installation uses eight U7 cabinets around the roof opening, with three U5s providing end fills and four U3s covering the raised bar area.
Low-frequency reinforcement comes from six Bi6-SUBs serving the main area and two Bi10s for the bar. At the client’s request, the system uses analogue inputs throughout. The additional loudspeaker positions made possible by the U-Series also allowed the system to use eight point-source locations rather than the six originally planned.
The system was supplied and installed by Lebanese d&b partner Seebeck Audio as the nightclub reopened following its closure in 2024.
The installation was prepared while the U-Series was still new to the Seebeck team. ArrayCalc simulations and advance preparation of the R1 setup allowed much of the work to be completed before the loudspeakers arrived. Once the system cleared customs, Seebeck says it was installed, tuned and ready to operate in less than 24 hours.
The bunker-like venue, designed by architect Bernard Khoury, first opened in Beirut’s port area in 1998 and became known internationally for its architecture and music programme. Much of the underground structure survived the 2020 Beirut port explosion, although the venue eventually closed while plans were developed for its return.
