Overtime Elite (OTE) is a new basketball sports league that offers the world’s most talented young basketball players a better pathway to becoming professional athletes. Its brand-new 103,000 square-foot facility, holding 1,200 spectators, is where OTE’s players train, study and compete. To ensure the best audio performance and to support their games and events, the facility has been outfitted with the Aero, Artec, HQ, UX, and CL series by DAS Audio.
AG Production Services of Las Vegas, Nevada, was contracted to build and outfit the new OTE facility. Andrew Gumper, the firm’s president and the company’s chief project manager, oversaw the operation of the project.
“It was important to OTE management that in addition to being a cutting-edge sports facility, the venue be outfitted with the best audio reproduction equipment,” he said. “This is because the announcements and other information must not only be suitable in terms of volume but also be clear and articulate. This led us to deploying DAS Audio.
AG Production Services deployed 32 Aero-40A three-way powered line array systems that feature a 12in transducer in a bass-horn configuration for low-end reproduction, an 8in transducer for the midrange, with high frequency reproduction handled by 2x DAS M-75N neodymium compression drivers attached to a BPS-2912 waveguide. These are augmented by 16 Aero-20A compact line array that feature a 12in transducer for the low-mid range, with one M-75N neodymium compression driver for the high frequencies. Low frequency support is provided by eight UX-218A subwoofers, each outfitted with dual 18in transducers in a front-loaded crossfire configuration.
The OTE facility also includes a weight room, practice courts, classrooms, and offices. Throughout these areas, AG Production Services deployed a combination of Artec, HQ, and CL systems. The company deployed 12x Artec-326-point source enclosures, containing twin 6-inch low frequency transducers mated with the M-26 compression driver for the high frequencies. There were also nine HQ-212.64-CX 2-way, long throw enclosures that feature 2 x 12in horn loaded low frequency loudspeaker with an M-78N neodymium compression driver for the high frequencies. Further, the team installed 96 CL-8 ceiling speakers – each loaded with an 8in coaxial transducer – around the facility.
“I’ve always loved the audio quality of DAS Audio loudspeakers,” commented Gumper. “They have a very natural, clear sound and their dispersion characteristics are excellent. Further, the company’s customer and technical support services are first-rate, and this is particularly important in terms of keeping a project on schedule.
“The new DAS Audio sound system has been absolutely amazing. Our client is thrilled by its performance and capabilities. Levels are consistent throughout the entire basketball court, announcements are crystal clear – no matter where one happens to be seated. The entire DAS Audio team was a pleasure to work with and I’d like to offer a special thank you to Carlos Henao, US production and touring manager, for staying on top of matters throughout the project. Both in terms of the products and the supporting people, DAS Audio is hard to beat.”
