Christie finds favour with African cinema chain

Based in Sandton, Johannesburg, the company auditioned a total of three brands before determining upon the Christie CP2000. The company initially rented a CP2000X for the launch of animated movie Happy Feet, then purchased this unit and two CP2000S devices. The three projectors are now in use, one apiece, at complexes in Sandton City, Rosebank and Durban, with the 3D version of Beowulf providing the opening attraction.

The Christie units are being used in conjunction with Real D digital stereoscopic projectors, Doremi digital cinema players and Harkness silver screens.

Ster-Kinekor’s CEO, Fiaz Mahomed, expressed great satisfaction with the Christie projectors, commenting: “The CP2000 is absolutely our digital projector of choice.”

The cinema chain is planning to take its conversion programme to a number of other screens in South Africa.
