Biamp platform delivers unified audio at Perth Airport

Company's Vocia platform deployed to combine emergency alerts, public announcements and background music into single, networked system, at Terminal 2 of Australian transport hub

Biamp’s Vocia unified audio platform has been installed at Perth Airport Terminal 2, integrating emergency messaging, public address and background music.

The installation, completed by integration partner Integrate Perth, is designed to streamline operations by combining functions normally handled by separate systems. Emergency warning messages, routine announcements and audio playback now run on a single, decentralised platform that supports zone paging and high intelligibility.

The system includes the Vocia MS1 message server, allowing staff to remotely schedule pre-recorded announcements, adjust settings or monitor system health across the network. The platform also supports full control and shutdown from user desktops.

Traditionally, EWIS (Emergency Warning and Intercommunication System) and public address systems are separate entities, each serving distinct purposes. EWIS is designed to deliver high-volume emergency alerts, ensuring they are audible across large spaces, while paging and public address systems prioritise speech intelligibility and background music. Biamp says the division often results in redundancy, increased infrastructure costs, and poor-quality background music when played over emergency loudspeakers.

Andrew Anderson-King, sales director, Integrate Perth, said: “Vocia is the perfect solution for Perth Airport Terminal 2 in that we could provide a compliant emergency warning system along with high intelligibility for public address announcements, including zone-paging capabilities. The beauty of the Biamp Vocia product is its decentralization. We’re not reliant on a central server or a central processor.”

Niclas Brattberg, general manager, Middle East and Asia Pacific markets at Biamp, added: “For Integrate Perth and the Perth Airport to use the Vocia system to bring together EWIS functions with public address capabilities within in a single, flexible platform, it is a tremendous achievement.”
