Three creative keynotes head ISE content programme

The speaker roster for the exciting keynote programme at ISE 2024 comprises a double Oscar-winning film director and two visual artists: Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (pictured – Tuesday 30 January, 17:15) , Jeroen van der Most (Wednesday, 17:15) and Sofia Crespo (Thursday, 13:15).

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy won Academy Awards for her documentary shorts Saving Face and A Girl In The River: The Price Of Forgiveness, which sought to highlight injustices in society. More recently she has embraced narrative film-making, and will be directing a new film in the Star Wars franchise, due for release in 2026.

In the ISE 2024 Opening Keynote, Seeing through the Eyes of Others: Redefining the Art of Storytelling¸Sharmeen will discuss the role of audiovisual technologies in shaping and enhancing the art of storytelling. By sharing examples from her work, she will demonstrate how these technologies can place viewers in the heart of the story, making the experience more personal, emotional, impactful, foster empathy and drive social change.

Jeroen van der Most has been using artificial intelligence to make visual art since 2010. His Wednesday Keynote, Breaking Boundaries with Creative AI, will explore how AI can make art more fluid, as well as helping us to build deeper relationships with non-human entities. He will also take the audience on a journey into his mind, using AI.

He will take this last idea a step further in a live performance artwork called Bee Barcelona, which he will present on the new transparent LED screen on the façade of the Fira’s South Access. Here he will merge his AI mind with that of a bee, transforming the city of Barcelona into a symbolic hive. He will perform Bee Barcelona at 12:30 on Wednesday 31 January and again at 19:00.

The Thursday Keynote will be given by Sofia Crespo. Sofia is the creator of ‘Structures of Being’, a work sponsored by ISE that is to be projected onto the façade of Casa Batlló in Barcelona the weekend before the show. The work, which marks the 20th anniversary of ISE and the 200th anniversary of Passeig de Gràcia (the street where Casa Batlló is located), set itself to reinterpret and celebrate the exterior of this iconic Gaudí building.

Sofia’s keynote, titled Making ‘Structures of Being’, will discuss the story and challenges behind the creation of this mesmerising work. ISE attendees can also see the work on the show floor – it will be played on an imposing LED display at the ISE Creative Cube exhibit in Hall 4 (stand 4F625).

All ISE keynotes will be held on the ISE Show Floor Stage in Hall 4 (stand 4D800):
