ISE insights: Ian Barnard, Sharp Display Solutions Europe

Senior VP marketing and product management for manufacturer of displays and visual solutions discusses ISE 2026 in our exclusive interview

How many times have you attended ISE, and in what capacity?
As a business, we have been part of ISE since the very early days, through the legacy of NEC Display Solutions Europe. Last year was significant for us as it marked the first time we appeared fully under the Sharp brand. The scale of the show continues to grow, and with more than 185,000 visits in 2025, it is clear that ISE has become the place where the entire AV community meets.

For 2026, we are looking forward to reconnecting with long-standing partners and end customers, meeting new clients, and spending time with analysts, press and industry peers. ISE offers a rare opportunity to have meaningful conversations with the full ecosystem in one place.

What are you most looking forward to seeing or experiencing at ISE?
This year is exciting because visitors will be able to experience what ‘One Sharp’ means in practice. We now bring together our AV technology – designed for precision, reliability, long-term value, and sustainable operation – with IT expertise and services under a single brand. The result for customers is a more complete offering, with a wider choice of products and enhanced support.

I am particularly looking forward to seeing how visitors respond. People want visual solutions that feel joined up and support them over the long term, which is exactly what we are presenting at ISE.

Which tech trends do you think will dominate the show floor and why?
A few stand out. First, dvLED technology continues to evolve rapidly. We are launching a new Sharp dvLED Series ahead of ISE, with improved image processing, higher efficiency, enhanced colour performance, lower power consumption, and simpler installation.

Second, projection is experiencing renewed interest. We recently expanded our projector line-up, with models ranging from compact education units to large venue projectors. We are seeing more demand for projection in creative and immersive environments.

Finally, AI will be everywhere, supporting content, analytics, calibration, automation, and system optimisation across the AV chain.

Do you have an opinion on the convergence between AV and broadcast?
AV and broadcast have been converging for some time, but the overlap is clearer than ever. Broadcasters now expect studio-grade colour accuracy, reliability, and consistency, and the AV industry is delivering technologies that meet those expectations.

We have observed this in projects with broadcasters in Central and Eastern Europe, where dvLED and high-performance LCD displays have become central to modern studios. I expect this convergence to be very visible at ISE, both on the show floor and in programme content.

What role does ISE play in your business planning?
ISE is a major anchor in our calendar. It gives us the opportunity to share our roadmap, demonstrate our latest technology, and – most importantly – listen to what customers and partners need. These conversations shape our priorities for the months ahead.

It is also the ideal global stage to show where we are heading as ‘One Sharp’. We want people to see how our portfolio works together and how we support customers now and in the years ahead.

What will you be launching or showcasing at ISE 2026?
We are presenting a broad range of new and updated technology under the theme ‘Focus – Now and Beyond’. Customers are looking for reliability, long-term value, and sustainable operation, and our product line-up addresses those needs.

Highlights include our new dvLED Series, professional large format and interactive displays built for durability and fire-safety compliance, the Hiperwall IP-based video wall controller, and an expanded projector portfolio spanning compact education units to large venue and immersive applications.

What conversations are you hoping to have with visitors?
We want to discuss the challenges customers face today and their plans for the future. By listening closely, we can connect people and technology to deliver trusted, tailored solutions for workplaces and public spaces.

With ‘One Sharp’ fully in place, we can have richer, more practical conversations. Visitors will see how Sharp’s AV technology, IT, managed services, and workplace solutions operate as a unified ecosystem. The stand will highlight the new ‘One Sharp’ Digital Experience, showing how this approach supports both immediate requirements and long-term transformation.
