InstallAwards finalists: Team of the Year award

For this year’s InstallAwards, the finalists for Team of the Year have been selected from all six main categories with the shortlist featuring entries where multiple partners worked on an installation and teamwork was crucial to the success of the project.

2M Audio / Tingo Gmbh / Auviso AG – KKL Lucerne

Fixing an unsatisfactory concert hall installation by including additional d&b audiotechnik speakers resulted in an original solution.

The equipment for the final testing was provided by 2M Audio, while Tingo GmbH was in charge of the implementation process and the contractor, Auviso handles the installation with help from the KKL technical team. The project took three days, two days of cables and hanging plus a day to set up.

Heijman / Felix Clark Dick van Wageningen/ Bruns / Shosho/ De Aanpak/ Fabrique/ Ata Tech/ Rapenburg Plaza / Kossmann.dejong – National Military Museum

This integrated lighting design, multimedia, audio and show control system was a year in the making. The exhibit includes interactive seated cabins throughout, which tell personal stories of veterans and soldiers.

Heijmans, one of the largest construction companies in the Netherlands led the project team and the building architect was Felix Claus Dick van Wageningen. Bruns was the main contractor for the museum interior and was responsible for process and project management, development, engineering, production and installation of all the exhibitions. Bruns subcontracted Rapenburg Plaza to work with exhibition architect Kossmann.dejong on the project.

7th Sense Design / Industrial Light and Magic / ITEC Corporation / Wincomn – Wuhan Movie Park

This features a 3D 8K display and 37m x 16.5m screen – as well as live actors, props, stunts and special effects including abseiling and motorbike stuntmen, co-ordinated with content and technology.

Over the course of a year, Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) worked alongside 7thSense Design to develop a custom web interface for control and fast content reviews. The interface included pre-programmed control interface with immediate access to multiple key points in the content.

Auerbach Pollock Friedlander / Meyer Sound / BBI Engineering – Soundbox at the San Francisco Symphony

Both a venue and a programming concept, SoundBox uses a Meyer Sound Constellation System to provide a wide range of performance environments.

Meyer Sound’s Constellation team was involved early on, working in close consultation with Auerbach Pollock Friedlander, as the principle of flexible acoustics was inherent in the client’s vision for the space. Once plans were complete, BBI Engineering was brought on board to consult on optimum timing for installation.

The Constellation team coordinated design details with Auerbach Pollock Friedlander to integrate their requirements with the theatrical design for lighting, video projection, HVAC, and other design details. Once the plans were finalised, BBI Engineering’s installation team was tasked with installing the loudspeakers and microphones with exacting precision.

CDEC / Capita / Leicester City Council – Leicester BSF Project

The council received funding to rebuild/remodel every secondary school in the city, integrating bespoke and future proof AV solutions.

For each school, the Special Projects Team attended three interactive AV Workshops to understand each vision for the school and design appropriate bespoke solutions that met their needs.

Many of the installations within this project were bespoke creations for the schools that took in to account their individual needs. The contribution of the Special Projects and Installation teams working together with the client to design, spec, source, supply and install these bespoke solutions resulted in installs that could not be achieved by an ‘off the shelf’ AV install firm.

The Special Project team, with advice from the Installation team and agreement from the client and end users, opted for a highly visual and interactive solution, combining NEC UM280Wi projectors and 80in semi matt whiteboard combinations in all 18 classrooms. This solution not only eliminates potential damage to LED / LCD TV screens but is highly user friendly and easy to maintain.
