InstallAwards: NEC ‘delighted’ to make shortlist

Six months on from the grand unveiling of three NEC LED displays at London’s Leicester Square ODEON cinema, NEC’s VP of display solutions, Simon Jackson, has spoken of the company’s delight at being shortlisted for Best Project Award for the inaugural InstallAwards.

“We are delighted to be nominated for Best Project Award with our LED installation at ODEON Leicester Square,” commented Jackson. “The three screens, which are the largest of their kind in Europe, are a tremendous achievement for NEC and ODEON, transforming the façade of the building whilst delivering a truly engaging visual experience. Such a high profile installation within a public square welcoming 90 million tourists each year makes the red-carpet premiere experience accessible to everyone.”

NEC is in with a chance of taking home the Best Project Award and/or the Teamwork Award in the public display/retail category on 12 June at the Wembely Hilton, London, after it was named as a finalist on 26 March.

Jackson was magnanimous when speaking to Installation about making the shortlist as he recognised the collaboration with partners that enabled the project to achieve the desired result.

“One of NEC’s great strengths lies in its relationships with its partners, allowing us to offer a total solution for any application, and our nomination in the Teamwork Award category is testament to the successful collaboration of all parties involved,” said Jackson.

The installation on the façade of the cinema centred on a central LED digital display measuring 107sqm flanked by two 18sqm LED displays. It was finished in time to provide visuals for the world premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The company is currently prepping for its 6th NEC Solutions Showcase, which further evidences NEC’s close and strong ties with partners.

“Our forthcoming Solutions Showcase has become an established event in the AV industry calendar and provides the platform to enable NEC to demonstrate the success of these partnerships where visitors can discover fully integrated end-to-end solutions within real-life scenarios.”

Jackson rounds off the hysteria surrounding the InstallAwards: “Being shortlisted for the InstallAwards is a great honour and offers an excellent opportunity to celebrate a successful collaboration which breaks new ground in its achievement and sets new standards in delighting audiences.”
