Atlona Technologies is the latest company to join the HDBaseT Alliance, which promotes the development and adoption of the HDBaseT standard for multimedia connectivity.
Established in June 2010, HDBaseT Alliance was created by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valens Semiconductor to promote and standardise HDBaseT technology for whole-home distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content. A number of Adopter Members have already been announced – including AMX, Crestron, Gefen, Grandbeing Technology and Smart Home Engineering Corp – with Atlona the latest to swell their ranks.
In a nutshell, HDBaseT enables a single LAN cable to replace multiple cables and connectors in both home and business environments. The technology is optimised for video applications and can connect all entertainment devices in a setting by providing the 5Play convergence of uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable, and various control signals.

Atlona currently offers a number of products based on HDBaseT technology, including the AT-DVI4-100SR and AT-HD4-V110SR DVI HDMI extender kits. The company’s extenders and matrix switchers based on this technology will be on display at InfoComm 2011 next month.
