AtlasIED celebrates 90 years in business

The company was founded in 1934 and in 2011 Atlas Sound and Innovative Electronic Designs (IED) merged as AtlasIED

AtlasIED is celebrating 90 years in business since the company was founded in 1934. In 2011, Atlas Sound acquired Innovative Electronic Designs (IED) and combined the sales, marketing, and support teams.

Today, AtlasIED still offers a wide range of commercial audio and communications, microphone stands and accessories, for applications ranging from transportation to houses of worship.

Prior owner Loyd Ivey, pictured, passed away in September 2023 and the new AtlasIED president and CEO, John Ivey, is determined to continue operating as a family-owned business.

At the outset, in 1934, Atlas Sound became the first company to combine the horn shape of the megaphone with electro-acoustics to create outdoor PA loudspeakers.

Bob Reinhardt and Carl Blumenthal, the company’s founders, took a special interest in mechanical devices and tooling. Noticing the demand for microphone stands, the pair began designing and metalworking.

Milestones have included installations in popular venues such as New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Moynihan Train Hall, along with supporting world-famous talent ranging from Whitney Houston to The Beatles.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our AtlasIED family for reaching 90 years as a global leader in our audio and communications technology,” said John Ivey, president and CEO. “Arriving at this milestone reinforces our commitment to never-ending growth and service to our customers.”
