Capable of seating a 722-strong audience, Kino 10 situated within Mannheim’s CinemaxX now features Alcons Audio’s Cinemarray sound solution.
The cinema room, which had previously converted to an all-digital solution for video, is home to Baden-Württemberg’s largest screen (276sqm).
Enlisted to install and cable a system that would supplement the enhanced video solution was Heidelberg-based Integrators fours, with further assistance arising from the Alcons Audio team. They chose Alcons’ newly developed cinema sound solution, the Cinemarray System, based on line-source technology. It features patented pro-ribbon transducer technology designed specifically for digital cinema applications.
Installed around the room are 24 devices which make up Alcons Audio’s latest CRS8 2-way surround system. A further four CB362 18in high-output subwoofers create bass for the room, while three of each CRA30n 3-Weg Cinemarray and CRA30w 3-Weg Cinemarray pro-ribbon screen sound systems are fitted around the display area.
Elsewhere, three ALC2 2 1kW and eight Alcons ALC4 2 2kW amplifiers provide power for the system.
Feeding the system is Doremi’s 2K4 Digital Server with DataSat AP20 sound processing.
Carsten Albrecht, Alcons Audio, says: “This prestigious installation is the next step in Alcons’ presence in the German cinema market and a clear indicator of the success Alcons C-series is enjoying worldwide, as one of the most innovative “Digital Cinema ready” sound systems available”.
Michael Braner, technical manager CinemaxX Mannheim finishes: “After all studies and tests we’ve done and participated in, we can only say that currently Alcons is among the most innovative developers of cinema sound systems. So we’re very proud that we’ve installed Kino 10 as the first project and that we have the best cinema sound experience with Alcons Cinemarray!”
