Ian Galloway to head new Yamaha division

The Yamaha veteran will be divisional director of a dedicated audiovisual division, effective 1 March.

Yamaha Music GmbH (UK) has announced the creation of a dedicated audiovisual division with effect from 1 March 2011, with Ian Galloway appointed divisional director. Prior to this, audiovisual sales and marketing activities came under the leadership of Robert Webster who was jointly responsible for the Yamaha keyboard business.

According to Yamaha, the moves signals a decision and determination to expand the company’s UK AV business and is particularly timely as the product range now encompasses a range of different categories including hi-fi components, system products, home cinema speakers, digital sound projectors, AV receivers and more recently the highly acclaimed Desktop Audio products.

Galloway’s experience with Yamaha dates back to 1981 when he played a pivotal role in the UK relaunch of Yamaha Hi-Fi following which he helped form Watford based Yamaha electronics in 1986. Subsequent career highlights include spearheading the UK launch of the iconic DSP-1, the worlds first domestic surround processor. In more recent years Galloway has been central to integrating the AV brand into the Music Company portfolio.

” I am inspired and excited by this announcement, it makes a big statement to the industry as regards the future direction of Yamaha AV & Hi-Fi products,we have a great team, a brilliant R&D and product development plan,” said Galloway. “I also look forward to continuing to bring Yamaha ‘s unique and distinctive musical heritage to our AV marketing activities.”
