Singular sound and cloud-based controls from Bang & Olufsen

ISE 2016 felt the power of the highly distinctive BeoLab 90 speaker, and witnessed the launch of the BeoLink SmartHome solution.

BeoLink SmartHome allows users to connect Bang & Olufsen products with other technology products in the home and offers full integration with some of the largest home integrators such as Crestron, Control4 and Savant.

Brian Bjørn Hansen, head of system solutions, Bang & Olufsen, said: “We are adding all the smart devices you can have in your home to the Beolink experience. The Beolink Smarthome is built on a cloud-based architecture, meaning that we can integrate with whatever is built on the cloud already. We can connect with Nest thermostat, IFTTT (If This Then That) services and Amazon Echo.”

The latter allows voice-controlled commands to change and control BeoLink SmartHome settings using the Bang & Olufsen BeoRemote or BeoLink App.

“IFTTT provides Bang & Olufsen customers with intelligent and flexible options for programming their homes and combining products and services that are not at the outset directly connected to one another,” added Hansen.

The 360° design of the BeoLab 90 is based on a complex cabinet containing more than 65kg of aluminium.

Only now shipping, the speaker offers Beam Width Control, which enables users to change the width of the sound beam to suit different listening situations. It can easily change the listening experience from a dedicated sweet spot to a party all-over the room setting at the touch of a button.

“This is our first speaker with upgradadable firmware,” said Hansen. “It will allow us to autoupdate customers with the new Active Room compensation technology, and a party mode will be next.”
