AI to drive pro AV growth

Cyber security expect Sean Reardon warned some companies still have a view that cyber security is a ‘nice to have’ rather than an essential part of their business

AVIXA kicked off the Control Rooms Summit by sharing its latest research on the sector, which identified that AI is predicted to be a boon for the AV industry. Sean Wargo VP, market intelligence, AVIXA, said that in a recent AVIXA survey, 41% of respondents were positive about the impact of AI on the industry, with only 4% expressing a negative view.

Wargo said: “The research showed that 30% saw it as becoming a useful tool in quality improvement, with spending expected to show a 10.3% CAGR over the next five years in managed services, which are predicted to see the biggest upside from AI.

“For our integrator community, AI is an area where they are already seeing that traction with their clients,” he added. “If there ever was a time for this technology to mature, it is now.”

Sean Reardon, principal cyber security consultant at DNV, addressed the pressing topic of cyber security, warning some companies still have a view that cyber security is a ‘nice to have’ rather than an essential part of their business.

“That’s where I see some of the biggest headaches,” he added. “In my experience, the problem with supply chains is that nobody takes a holistic whole view, but if you don’t do something about it, it will go wrong.

“If you haven’t started working on it now you are going to be lagging and exposing your investors to risk.”

Reardon pointed out that cyber security is increasingly becoming a market differentiator, with 85% of large companies worrying about the cyber security of their suppliers. He added that from October a new EU regulation will make having effective cyber security a requirement, with penalties for failing to provide it.
