Riding the wave – QSC Audio exploits China’s construction boom

By being able to offer QSC-based solutions from the Californian company’s extensive product range, the company’s territorial distributor, Beijing-based Prime Connections Inc (PCI), has successfully tendered for a number of contracts. In particular, PCI reports that QSC sound reinforcement and network control systems have been supplied to a number of conference centres, sports halls and stadia.

Founded in 1724, Beijing No. 2 Middle School (pictured) has become the most prominent school of its type in Beijing. With its concept of all-round education, high-quality staff and advanced facilities it has produced many star pupils. Asked to participate in the provision of a pro audio system for its newly constructed sports hall, PCI recommended QSC’s Installation Line Array (ILA) series, flying eight WL2082-I and a pair of WL115-WL subs in two hangs either side of the stage. Power duties were divided among five PowerLight 2 amplifiers, and optimised with QSC’s new generation DSP322ua 8-in/8-out DSP processor – as a result of which the sound quality has been widely acclaimed by both end users and contractors alike.

Down in Shenzhen, the new 42-storey Marco Polo Hotel, designed by the renowned Singapore-based Wilson and Co., is situated in the heart of the burgeoning Futian Central Business District. The new facility incorporates a 42,000 sq. metre business area comprising a total of ten conference rooms of varying size (the largest multi-purpose hall accommodating up to 1200 people). All conference rooms are equipped with multiples of QSC enclosures – a combination of ModularDesign powered MD-FP series arrayable speakers and surface-mount AcousticDesign AD-S82Hs, to provide even coverage from an aesthetically designed sound source.

In the central belt, the four-star Handan King Zhao Hotel also required a sound reinforcement infrastructure for its conference rooms. This time PCI’s solution was to provide a combination of a pair each of QSC ModularDesign MD-F122/64R 12-inch full range speakers, powered HPR153F (15-inch 3-way), HPR181W (18-inch subwoofer) and sleek high impact polystyrene 2-way AcousticDesign AD-S282H, along with four AD-S82 high output two-way 8-inch speakers.

Covering a total area of 22.3 hectares, Foshan Lingnan Sports Center in Guangdong can accommodate an audience of up to 6,000 people. The building, connected by three beautiful arches like a shining pearl, provides a shimmering landmark of the city. Again PCI have ensured that the sound system can be monitored by equipping 26 of QSC’s multi-channel, low-impedance CX amplifiers with five CM16a network monitoring devices to enable audio level control, monitoring, and amplifier management to be maintained. These are supported by 18 of QSC’s popular RMX5050 amplifiers.

Other projects are constantly coming onstream as China develops its commercial and industrial infrastructure. Another which will give a high profile to QSC loudspeakers is the Sports Center in Hefei’s new Scientific City – a massive undertaking spanning 100,000 sq. km in the Anhui Province. At press time some 52 of QSC’s AD-CI52T in-ceiling speakers had already been specified to create a distributed system. These speakers, said to be ideal for a wide range of applications due to their unusually wide frequency range and ability to deliver high SPL, will be powered by seven of QSC’s ISA300Ti 70v line amplifiers.
