Michigan church selects L-Acoustics after financial milestone is met

After satisfying the entire mortgage for the property, the Holland Central Wesleyan Church opted to improve the sound reinforcement in its 2,800-seat sanctuary space with a KUDO solution.

The Central Wesleyan Church, located in Holland, Michigan, US, has installed a new L-Acoustics KUDO audio solution as a direct result of the worship centre paying off its mortgage.

The 2,800-seat main sanctuary inside the church was first on the list for upgrades following the financial milestone, which was met in celebration of the church’s 115th anniversary.

The church hired Dallas-based Acoustic Dimensions to find the right sound reinforcement system for the fan-shaped space,

The team at Acoustic Dimensions – comprising Ryan Knox and Steve Reed – ensured facilities manager at the church, Dwayne Dreyer, had a comprehensive understanding of the systems available him by taking him to six sites which had installed systems. One of the sites, Watermark church, struck a chord with Dreyer thanks to the L-Acoustics KUDO system installed there.

After the system selection was confirmed, the Acoustic Dimensions used L-Acoustics’ SOUNDVISION 3D system modeling software, to map out the new design. Integrator Parkway Electric carried out installation of the new system.

The installed system features left and right arrays each incorporating nine KUDO each. Low frequency reinforcement, meanwhile, is achieved via six L-Acoustics SB28 subwoofer enclosures flown between the KUDO arrays in a V-shaped cardioid configuration. These are supplemented by six more SB28 spread out just under the front lip of the wide stage below. Five coaxial 8XT speakers, painted white, are ceiling-mounted under the balcony to cover the acoustically shadowed areas at the back of the main floor seating. Power and processing for the entire system is handled by 13 LA8 amplified controllers.

“Central Wesleyan’s services feature a broad range of musical styles that encompass everything from choral to rock, all of which KUDO handles very well,” commented Gary Zandstra at Parkway Electric. “The system has outstanding clarity for spoken word and orchestration, as well as plenty of punch for both Contemporary worship and the touring acts that they’re currently bringing in, like Michael W. Smith and Kenny Rogers. Now, with this installation, we’ve installed L-Acoustics systems into the three largest churches in the greater Grand Rapids area and each of them is extremely happy with the results.”
