Marantz unveils successor to 6003 stereo set

The new PM6004 amplifier and CD6004 CD player build on the qualities of its predecessor to offer high-quality sound and clear reproduction.

The new PM6004 amplifier and CD6004 CD player build on the qualities of their predecessors to offer high-quality sound and clear reproduction.

The key design change within the PM6004 is that both the pre-amplification and power amplification sections now exclusively feature discrete components. Specially selected single components outperform ICs in quality, plus they make it possible to refine the sound in much more detail, resulting in more clarity and transparency in the sound stage. The lower impedance toroidal transformer with case-shield has been retained, as have the customised main capacitors, as well as the extruded aluminium heat sink-mounted potential power transistor. All of the practical original features – such as the six-line audio input including high-quality phono stage, two-pairs of gold- plated speaker connections with the convenience of bi-wiring, and handy remote handset – remain in place.

The CD6004 has been finetuned with components including a solid metal bottom plate. In addition, the CD mechanism’s location has been centralised – hence vibration has been virtually eliminated. The stable, oversized power supply feeds the digital and analogue circuitry of the player, where the CS4398 converts digital signals to analogue. This is then ‘pushed’ to the gold-plated synch outputs by Marantz’s small signal amplifier, the HDAM-SA2.

The CD004 also features iPhone and iPod connectivity via USB.

The PM6004 and CD6004 will be available from mid-September in lack or silver-gold.
