Janacek Theatre has exchanged its long-serving communications system for a new, extensive Riedel Communications solution, writes David Davies. Riedel’s Czech distribution partner for theatre and professional AV, MusicData, installed a system combining Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom technology with digital partyline and a traditional radio system.

The core of the system is provided by a Riedel Artist 64 digital matrix, which supports up to 1,024 x 1,024 non-blocking ports and is equipped with redundant CPUs and power supplies.

Tomas Krizka, head of sound at the Janacek Theatre, commented: “We were looking for a flexible communications infrastructure. Riedel’s Artist is easy to operate and provides the adaptability we need. The integration with the Performer digital partyline equipment expands this flexibility even further.”

Control is provided by a total of 10 Artist 3000 and 21 Artist 5000 series panels, while a Performer digital partyline system incorporating six beltpacks has been specified to further enhance the site’s communications capability.

Six RiFace interfaces integrate mobile radios into the wired communications infrastructure, while the existing telephone system is connected to the intercom via Riedel Connect Solo interfaces. No fewer than 15 medium-weight PRO headsets complete the new set-up.

Invited to consider Riedel’s overall prospects in the region, director marketing & communications Andreas Hilmer told IE: “There is a lot of development in the Eastern European countries whether it be the broadcast, theatre or event markets. We are looking forward to new projects that will be realised there in the future.”
