Dubbed ‘Land of Fire 2008’ and broadcast live in several countries and on Eurovision.tv’s esctv last month, the show was held in a multi-purpose complex in Baku and saw Elnur Guseynov (pictured) emerge as the winner with the song ‘Day After Day’. The core technical set-up included one grandMA full-size console, a grandMA light and one MA NSP for lighting.
“I insisted on the grandMA once I knew the variety of lighting that the rig would contain – 100 movers, LEDs and conventionals, plus the fact that we [had] to programme the show in a short time-frame,” said lighting operator Timo Kauristo. “In an unknown situation like this, I need to know I can rely on my desk!”
The lighting team included designer Per Sundin and project manager Ola Melzig. Lighting equipment was supplied by Ukraine-based Luxen.
