Holovis has launched a world first: a 12-person 3D interactive real-time gaming experience that runs in a 360˚dome projected at 4K resolution. The purpose-designed Crimson Wing story takes riders on a journey into a series of different worlds that they choose themselves in real time.
The attraction also delivers 3D visuals, spatial audio, perfectly synched motion and Holovis’s InterAct tracking system. The visual part of the experience is delivered by four Barco F85 projectors: these compact, high-performance, 3-chip DLP projectors can deliver active and passive 3D up to 120Hz, ensuring all 12 guests in the 10m dome have an optimal viewing experience.
Crimson Wing is a complete turnkey solution that can be installed into an existing or new facility in a fixed, seat-based immersive theatre configuration, or deployed as a dark ride or as part of a full media coaster offering. The real-time interactive gameplay of Crimson Wing gives ride operators and park designers new possibilities for customisation and personalisation.
Stuart Hetherington, CEO of Holovis, commented: “Crimson Wing is the world’s first true 3D interactive gaming experience in a 360° dome environment. Our talented group of in-house artists and media producers joined forces with our game-engine programmers and attraction engineers to create the immersive and exciting world of Fortuna Prime.
“Traditionally interactive experiences at theme parks haven’t taken place in dome structures due to the complexity of accurately mapping across the curved surface. Our focus is now on utilising real-time media to drive the future of attractions. By incorporating elements such as interactivity you create a more engaging and flexible attraction which increases ride repeatability by giving guests a different experience each time, depending on the path they choose to take. This concept is a real game-changer for the industry.”
The attraction debuted at IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando, the attractions industry’s leading trade show.
