DiGiCo Quantum 338s boost Fairy-Tale Theatre in China’s ‘wooden toy town’

DiGiCo’s Quantum 338 mixing consoles have been installed at the Fairy-Tale Theatre in Yunhe, China, providing an audio solution focused on flexibility for the multi-functional venue, which was designed to reflect Yunhe’s identity as China’s “wooden toy town”.

The 696-seat theatre – part of the larger Fairy-Tale Castle complex in Zhejiang – now features two Quantum 338s, configured with one console as the main front-of-house system and the second mirrored for redundancy. The setup is designed to allow real-time synchronisation between the two consoles, enabling takeover in case of failure and simplifying multi-user operation.

The Quantum 338 boasts 128 input channels, 64 aux or subgroup busses, and a 24×24 full processing matrix. The surface includes ultra-bright screens for rehearsals, with a dark mode available during performances to minimise visual distractions.

The upgrade comes as the theatre expands its programme of performances, requiring an audio system capable of adapting to a variety of production types.

Zhao Haozhi, deputy manager of the product department at RAC – DiGiCo’s distributor in China, said: “The team wanted a console that could handle everything from orchestral productions to spoken word with minimal compromise. With the ability to mirror consoles in real time, the Quantum 338 adds a layer of operational safety that’s essential in high-pressure live environments.”

The new system was put to the test recently during the premiere of Hymn of the Earth, performed by the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theatre Traditional Music Troupe. According to Zhao, the performance demonstrated the consoles’ ability to manage complex mixes with precision and clarity.
