A DiGiCo Quantum 225 console and an L-Acoustics L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound system powered the recent premier of My Grand View Garden, which featured an all-female cast at the Hangzhou Butterfly Theatre, China.
Rightway Audio Consultants (RAC) supplied the technology for Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Theatre’s production of the Yue opera, a popular Chinese genre which features women in all roles including those of the male protagonists.
According to L-Acoustics, L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound is designed to create a “highly realistic and immersive sound experience”, particularly in live performances. It uses a combination of loudspeaker systems, spatial processing hardware and software to precisely position and separate audio elements. The installation for My Grand View Garden featured A10 Focus and Wide loudspeakers, KS21 subs, 5XT front fills, and X12 surrounds.
Wang Jianghua, system engineer, said: “Yue theatre has a proud heritage and a strong fan-base, so we wanted everything to go well. The Quantum 225 is the perfect fit, and not just because of its compact footprint. The ability to utilise all the Quantum features, plus additional benefits like multiple DMI cards and USB Madi, make it endlessly adaptable and perfect for a busy theatre like the Hangzhou Butterfly.”
He added: “This Yue opera masterpiece interprets all kinds of life stories. The superior acting skills of Chen Lijun and other actors, together with the application of an impeccable audio system, make people unconsciously immersed in the plot, sharing the sorrows and joys with the characters.”
My Grand View Garden is considered a masterpiece of Yue theatre. It portrays the story of Jia Baoyu who grows up under the trials and tribulations of society and his family. Based on the 18th century classic of Chinese literature, Dream of the Red Chamber, the story observes the world of the ‘Red Chamber’ from Jia Baoyu’s point of view.
