d&b sound system for listed London building

Entec’s sound department has completed a specialist d&b audio installation at Stationers Hall, a Grade 1 listed building close to St. Paul’s Cathedral, London.

With a heritage that stretches back to 1763, the building is now one of London’s most prestigious corporate event venues. To upgrade the long-serving sound specification, the owner enlisted Entec to design and install a new audio system capable of covering a wide variety of events.

The Entec project team was headed up by Peter Codron and Liam Halpin, who had to enable excellent coverage for speech and background music, ensure that the system was easy to operate, and negotiate the various requirements of the building’s Grade 1 status.

The initial brief was to replace the existing PA system and provide a record option and eight channels of radio, but was subsequently expanded to facilitate routing audio sources into any room. Accordingly, a Biamp distribution system and Audia Solo 8×8 system processor were added to a set-up that also includes four d&b E8 loudspeakers in the main hall, two more E8s in the Court Room and two E0s in the Stock Room. All loudspeakers in the venue have been custom-painted to match the surround and are driven by d&b D6 amplifiers.

In addition, Entec supplied a Tascam CD player, a pair of Sontronics STC1 mics, eight channels of Sennheiser’s G3 500 wireless system and a Soundcraft EPM12 mixer. The impressive installation also features a bespoke control rack casing hand-crafted from English oak by Stationers’ own specialist cabinet maker from Wales.

“I believe we have succeeded in giving the client a high performance and intelligible system with simple control and flexibility the venue required. They seem very happy with the outcome,” said Codron.
